Cynthia Sovich on Kids and Loss & Death

This week Cynthia Sovich (who is one of our own mentor moms!) spoke to us on helping our kids deal with loss and death. She had so much good information on what we can do, and it is all contained in this PDF document. Click here to download it. (A correction to the handout: The link to Mr. Rogers' video on losing a pet is here.)

Cynthia also has information this book as a resource (not in the handout):
I Love You Rituals (Activities to build Bonds and Strengthen Relationships with Children)
By Dr. Becky Bailey
She takes traditional nursery rhymes, makes them more “friendly” and puts movements with them.
In addition to building bonds, these activities help stimulate healthy brain chemicals.
Little Miss Muffet sat on her tuffet, eating her curds and whey.
Along came a spider and sat down beside her and said, “Hey,Have a good day!”

Cynthia opened by teaching us motions to a song called "I wish you well". We can do these motions together with our children, and the singing and motions can help our brains engage, and help us connect with each other.  Here is a link to the song (also in the handout linked above).

Here are some pictures of us practicing the song together:
